“Thinking green”, “environmental responsibility” and “sustainable development” are common terms in the Bio Extratus work environment. In April 2010, the company went through an audit process conducted by ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards), achieving the ISO 14001 certification.
ISO 14001 is an international quality standard which ensures that the company has an environmental management system working properly and therefore not harming the environment in any stage of the manufacturing process or in activities associated with it.
To achieve this certification, Bio Extratus presented evidence of all environmental care took by the company throughout its history, including: no animal testing, projects of water springs restoration and preservation of native forest, control of all solid waste, efficient system for effluent treatment, employee development and training, compliance with environmental legislation and strict internal procedures to prevent pollution.
The commitment to sustainable development, undertaken by the company, encourages employees to work towards a continuous improvement, and to strive more and more to protect the environment, making it a goal to be constantly pursued.
For Bio Extratus, achieving the ISO 14001 certification is a recognition for our long-time effort, investment and dedication.
Our customers can be proud to support an environmentally friendly industry that cares about the future of the planet.
THE EFFLUENT TREATMENT
In 2002, the company started a treatment program of all waste generated in the processes and activities, having received the environmental license certificate of FEAM (State Environmental Foundation). In this process, the entire effluent system (industrial and sanitary) is piped to appropriate tanks where it receives a suitable treatment, returning treated water to the environment.
From the year 2006, due to the growth of the company, there was the need to expand the effluent treatment system. Thus, the business invested in a new anaerobic biological treatment process followed by filtration trenches, where all the effluent is returned to nature as reusable water. The solid part of the effluent is taken and turned into organic fertilizer. The entire process is monitored by the company’s own laboratory and companies accredited by FEAM.
LANDSCAPING AND AFFORESTATION
Investing in landscaping turned the industrial park of the company into a beautiful landscape to enjoy: beautiful lawns (which prevent erosion), colorful bougainvillea, palm trees and ornamental flowers. Having a large area, the company currently develops an afforestation project that includes the planting of native trees such as Jacarandás, Mulatos, fruit trees and coconut trees, attracting birds of various species, offering the nature a space for the preservation of both the fauna and flora.
WATER SPRINGS RECOVERY
Another investment regarding environmental preservation made by the company is the recovery of water springs, through afforestation and the construction of a complex of ponds. The preservation and protection of nature are for Bio Extratus a source of pride and a commitment to the environment, as well as to all the current and future society.
